Technical reporting across the Herberton district
2005–2006 and FY2026 · documented · medium materiality
A 2006 signed technical certificate reports that Norum was Intrepid’s Australian exploration manager and identifies his geology degree and professional membership. Iltani’s 2026 report identifies him as the competent person responsible for compiling its exploration results; Mining One, not Norum, is named for the Orient mineral-resource estimate.
Attribution: Individual involvement documented. The certificate is Norum’s self-report; the company’s competent-person statement identifies his technical reporting role but does not independently verify the degree or attribute the resource estimate to him.
Relevance: Shows directly identified exploration-reporting experience relevant to the current role.
Paulsens technical report and Norum certificate (Signed certificate dated 20 August 2006); Annual report for the year ended 30 June 2026 (PDF p.14, competent persons for exploration results and resource estimates)
Environmental record
Former Monto subsidiary and mine operator fined after water releases
2011–2013; remediation update April 2026 · documented · high materiality
During the 2011–12 wet season, mine-affected water entered Jamie Creek and the Walsh River from Baal Gammon. Queensland said Monto subsidiary Baal Gammon Copper pleaded guilty to environmental-authority and protection-order breaches and was fined A$80,000 in 2013; operator Kagara was separately fined A$120,000. Queensland’s April 2026 update reports primary remediation completed, but ongoing care and monitoring, and says creek contamination also reflects geological factors and historic mining.
Attribution: Role overlaps event; causation unproven. Monto’s April 2012 report described Norum as recently appointed exploration manager, a July 2013 announcement names him in that role, and its 2014 report records his August 2014 departure. The precise start date and overlap with the 2011–12 releases are not established. Kagara operated the mine; the sources do not establish that Norum operated the site, directed the releases or committed a breach.
Relevance: A material environmental and oversight outcome at a former employer relevant to current exploration work in the same region.
Monto Minerals March 2012 quarterly report (Quarterly report published 30 April 2012, p.3, recent Herberton exploration appointment); Monto Minerals 2014 annual report (Printed pp.15–16, 2014 remuneration and employment end date); Baal Gammon update (pp.1–2, operator, permit holder and environmental evaluation); State government holds mine owner to account (12 September 2013 government statement); Baal Gammon Copper Mine media release (21 November 2013 administrator media release, p.1); Baal Gammon remediation project (1 April 2026 update, status and Jamie Creek water); Further high grade tin results from follow-up drilling (Page 4, competent persons statement names exploration manager); Miner fined $120K over waterways pollution (22 November 2013 article, court outcome and separate corporate fines)
Suitability for the current role

Evidence gaps
-
No original court judgment or complete investigation and remediation file was obtained for the 2012 Baal Gammon releases; contemporaneous roles do not establish Norum’s personal involvement.
-
Independent confirmation of university degree and current professional membership was not obtained.
-
Complete prior-employer history, his specific responsibility for Iltani exploration outcomes, and comprehensive regulator and court records remain unavailable.
-
Separate person-and-employer searches of court, regulator, fraud, safety and environmental records were not completed for every material prior role; broad combined searches cannot establish that those checks were performed.
-
His exact start date at Monto is unknown, so overlap with the 2011–12 releases is not established; his separate July 2013 exploration role does not establish mine-operation responsibility.
