Industrial safety

ENC contractor fatality and mine suspension

March–April 2026 · issuer reported · high materiality

A contractor engaged by Fajar Metal Industry died during ENC transmission-line construction on the Hengjaya haul road in March 2026. Nickel said the energy ministry investigation had concluded and mining resumed on 9 April; the authority’s detailed findings were not obtained. ENC was equity accounted and excluded from the controlled-entity lost-time injury rate, so a zero rate did not encompass this death.

Attribution: Role overlaps event; causation unproven. Management oversight and an incident during tenure do not establish personal fault or control of the third-party contractor.

Relevance: Relevant to operational and contractor safety oversight.

Fatality during construction activities (p. 1); Hengjaya mine operations recommenced (p. 1); March 2026 quarterly activities report (p. 3 safety and footnote 2)

Evidence gaps

  • Independent confirmation of credentials and complete employment dates remains incomplete.

  • Targeted open-web searches are limited; original court, regulator, prior-employer and Indonesian-language records were not exhaustively obtained.

  • The issuer states a board appointment date, but the beginning of the current executive role was not independently established.

  • The ESDM investigation’s original detailed report and responsibility findings were not obtained.
